The ninth round of the FIM Road Racing World Championship saw Hakim Danish triumph in Moto3, Ivan Ortola take victory in Moto2, and Marc Marquez win the MotoGP race. The Spanish champion claimed his fifth premier MotoGP class victory in Brno.
Home favourite Filip Salač received a tremendous reception from the packed grandstands. He had been competitive from the opening practice sessions and lined up on the front row of the grid. Although he dropped to sixth place after the start, he stayed in touch with the leading group and eventually produced a brilliant overtaking move to pass two riders and move into third.
“It was incredibly tough. I didn’t get the best start, and after that overtaking was really difficult for me. I expected the bike to perform a little better, but in those temperatures it just wasn’t possible, so I had to wait for the riders ahead of me to make a mistake,” Salač explained.
A few laps from the finish, he launched an attack on the leading duo before easing off. “I pushed hard, but I ended up overheating the tyres because my pace was faster. In the end, I settled for third place, and I’m happy with that,” said Salač, who currently sits eighth in the Moto2 riders’ standings.
Salač described this year’s home Grand Prix as the best racing day of his life. “I don’t think I’ve fully realised yet what I’ve achieved,” said Salač, who became the first Czech rider in history to stand on a Moto2 podium at home Grand Prix. “It means so much to me. I know I’m riding well at the moment, so I’m really proud of myself. It’s unbelievable, I’m lost for words,” he added.
Karel Hubáček: “This Year’s Rescue Teams Deserve Top Marks”
This year’s MotoGP event in Brno attracted a total of 171,230 spectators over three days. “Considering the unusual date and the exceptionally challenging temperatures, the overall attendance is a figure we greatly appreciate. We view it with genuine respect for everyone who came to support the riders from the grandstands. I would like to sincerely thank all the fans. Naturally, I’m also delighted that Filip Salač rewarded them with an outstanding third-place finish. Special thanks must go to the organisers and emergency services, who handled a very demanding situation brilliantly. They took care of everyone who needed assistance and did an incredible job throughout the entire race weekend,” said Karel Hubáček, Chairman of the Board of CREDITAS Autodrom Brno.
