“The new asphalt is fantastic, smooth, no bumps and with incredible grip. You can lean the bike more and get on the throttle much earlier. You really feel the rear wheel pushing you forward,” said Salač.
According to Salač, the Masaryk Circuit now boasts a surface better to most tracks currently on the MotoGP calendar. The quality is now comparable only to circuits that also have recently undergone resurfacing.
“I honestly believe we’re going to see lap records fall across all categories. I’d say we can expect improvements of three to four seconds per lap. I personally hit my fastest ever time at Brno already on my second run,” added Salač. His main goal for the nearly hour-long session was to assess the quality of the new surface and get in a bit of training.
Also taking part in the test was Roman Durdis, one of two Czech riders competing in the Northern Talent Cup, which will support the Czech Grand Prix in July. Both riders praised the new tarmac, with Salač noting that grip levels should improve even further as the track will be more used.
The resurfacing marks a major milestone in the circuit’s broader renovation effort. Alongside the new asphalt, other upgrades such as expanded run-off areas and a modernized light signaling system, were essential for the return of the Czech Grand Prix.
“We’re naturally thrilled to receive such positive feedback from Filip. Our primary goal was to complete the resurfacing to the highest possible quality. I’d like to extend my thanks to the companies and all the individuals involved in what was an extremely demanding technological process. We’ve put in weeks and months of intensive work, so to hear praise from the riders really means a lot,” said Karel Hubáček, Chairman of the Board at Automotodrom Brno.
The renovation of the Masaryk Circuit is a private investment by the circuit’s owner in collaboration with the Creditas Group, with total costs exceeding CZK 180 million.
